Cold chain monitoring for retail store network
Problem
Grupo Bafar is one of the most popular food manufacturers and distributors in Mexico. The company experienced problems with the cold chain monitoring in retail stores.
Malfunction of refrigerators often resulted in product loss. The company wanted to have full temperature information at their hands to be able to timely plan preventive maintenance for refrigerators or act in case of equipment failure.
Each refrigerator was equipped with only one temperature sensor. To check the temperature, staff had to visit the refrigerators physically.
Bafar also wanted to monitor the operators of the chilling and freezing chambers. Sometimes, they just forgot to close the refrigerator door or kept it open for too long. It often led to critical temperature changes.
Solution
mobitrax partner in Mexico, armed Grupo Bafar with a temperature monitoring solution that allowed the company to ensure the cold chain in their retail stores.
mobitrax partner equipped Bafar’s cooling and freezing chambers with Teltonika FMB125 GPS trackers and PUCK temperature sensors. The sensors were installed in several parts of the refrigerators.
PUCK magnet sensors are used for detecting the events like opening/closing the doors. Alerts are activated in case the door is open for too long.
Reports provide the client with the data on how long the door remains open and how it influences the temperature inside the chamber.
12 VCC 3 A voltage regulators allow controlling the refrigerator power supply.
The GPS tracker collects the data from the voltage regulators, BLE temperature and magnet sensors and transmits it to flespi. Then, the information is sent to the management system, where the client's employees can view it on the dashboard,
flespi streams ensure continuous data flow from hundreds of devices (there are 300 units with several sensors installed in each) to the management platform.
The specialists of the monitoring center generate maintenance reports. They also call the retail stores when they see that a door is open for too long.
Result
Up to 80% losses reduction
Before, Bafar suffered losses of 200,000 USD per month due to product waste in the stores. This sum has been reduced by 40% already and is expected to decrease by 80%.
Maintenance planning
Now, the client can plan the maintenance before the equipment fails and puts the goods at risk of becoming spoiled. Also, any current issues can be dealt with fast and with minimum product loss.
Weak links detection
The client managed to detect the stores with malfunctioning refrigerator equipment and reduce employees’ irresponsible attitudes.
Responsive integration
Easy telematics. From developers to developers.
flespi is an innovative backend platform by mobitrax connecting telematics hardware of any type to various BI and telematics systems, providing unified data communication via REST API. The service can receive and process data from almost any telematics device on the market regardless of the protocol and store them in a standardized JSON format. Unified messages are easily accessible and instantly ready-for-use in your software.
flespi ecosystem currently includes:
Telematics hub – connect versatile trackers to multiple platforms quicker. Aggregate data from devices by multiple manufacturers and stream it to fleet management, IoT, or BI platforms from a feature-rich visual interface.
Device management platform – configure your tracking devices in a single spot. Send commands via GPRS or SMS from a user-friendly universal device configurator and easily debug any issues in Toolbox.
MQTT broker – enable fast and secure M2M communication. Establish reliable connectivity within your IoT infrastructure using advanced features from the MQTT 5.0 specification.
Telematics database — store telemetry from tracking devices, readings from sensors, pics & videos from cameras, and more. Get the data in an instant in your applications once needed.
Tracking cargo transportation in Western Africa
Problem
Ivory Coast Chamber of Commerce and Industry defends the interests of local companies and businesses. One of the organization’s challenges was to facilitate safe transportation of goods between Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger and ensure compliance with the Inter-State Road Transit convention that implied several safety measures like 24-hour online monitoring, protection seals and beacons, etc.
On the whole, the organization was facing the following issues:
trucks highjacking and illegal unloading of products;
manual documents processing that often took a lot of time; uncareful driving.
Solution
the network of mobitrax platform, developed a solution that automated paper flow ensured the safety of the transported goods, and compliance with state and international regulations.
The hardware installed on the trucks is sending data to mobitrax platform, which in turn provides data flow to the custom-developed solution. Here are the details:
To secure the goods inside the trucks, the vehicles were equipped with e-locks. The access to trucks became recordable.
All the roads that are allowed for goods transportation were imported to mobitrax. In case a driver leaves the authorized route or a geofence or makes a long suspicious stop, a dispatcher gets a notification, and it’s sent to the police afreward.
Some more notifications were created for a situation when a truck is crossing a checkpoint, or when a driver violates the rules, e.g., when the vehicle has been in the port for more than 48 hours or makes a stop earlier than 1 hour before the previous one.
User accounts were created in the monitoring system so that any party involved had access to the required data.
Open API made it possible to register the trucks in the system fast and in bulk. Previously it took 48h to 72h to make the trucks visible to customs authorities.
The Eco Driving module in mobitrax helps control driving behavior.
Next fase will be implementing video monitoring for certain types of goods.
The company is also going to arrange the monitoring of raw materials such as cocoa, coffee, cashew nuts on their way from the fields to the weighbridge, factories, and ports.

Monitoring Coca-Cola containers in Papua New Guinea
Problem
Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) distributes non-alcoholic beverages in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. The company experienced some common issues typical for the region:
It was complicated to keep track of containers as they were scattered all around the country.
During transportation, products were not secure from theft, and trucks with containers were often subject to hijacking.
It was hard for Coca-Cola Europacific Partners to plan trips. They didn’t have data about container location and couldn’t inform their customers, e.g., about delivery delays.
The company had to pay detention and demurrage fees as they often didn’t manage to return empty containers to shipping companies on time.
Solution
Our partner in Papua New Guinea, provided a solution consisting of the mobitrax monitoring platform, a custom dashboard for real-time container management, and GPS trackers.
Containers equipet with Queclink GL505 and Jointech JT704 trackers. The devices were disguised as container vent holes.
A custom dashboard was developed. The dashboard pulls live data from mobitrax platform and displays it for the CCEP to view.
The client automatically receives reports on containers staying at the warehouse for too long, issues with trackers, the number of containers in transit or at the client's location, etc. It’s also possible to see live reports with this information.
The client is planning to integrate the dashboard with Coca-Cola's accounting system.
